Planning a family vacation means more than just finding the perfect destination and a reasonable hotel. You also need to figure out how to keep the kids entertained while traveling! There’s lots of ways to keep the kids busy–from license plate bingo to iPads loaded with movies.
But I’ve come across another idea for you! Brace yourself, it’s a bit old-school and low tech. It’s a book! Ok, not just any book, but the National Geographic Kids Almanac 2016. It’s perfect for older kids, around 8 to 12. The book is fun, colorful and attention grabbing–and written by the same guys who create the National Geographic Kids Magazine! (Shhhhhh, they might even learn something!)
What I really like about the NG Kids Almanac is that it’s perfect for kids who might be reluctant to read–or could maybe use an introduction to new material. (Seriously, how many times can boys read about video game tips?) With 350 pages and over 900 photographs, this book is sure to excite any kid who flips through the pages.
There’s page after page of weird-but-true facts, crafts, activities, games, jokes, comics, quizzes, first hand accounts by Nat Geo Explorers, and fascinating articles about animals, science, nature, going “green,” technology and more. It is literally hours upon hours of entertainment!
Traveling by plane? The Almanac doesn’t need batteries to entertain your kids and slides easily into your carry on bag! How’s that for easy?
