Mitch loves building crazy things with LEGOs–cars, towers, spaceships, monsters, boats, you name it, he’s built it! But some of the best fun he’s had with LEGOs is when I take him to a workshop. The best thing about LEGO camps is Mitch gets to meet other LEGO crazy kids, learn new building techniques and discover the science behind LEGO contraptions. If your kid loves LEGO as much as mine, you’ll want to check out this place!
I’d like to introduce you to the Snapology Discovery Center in West County. FYI, this post is sponsored by Snapology, but my opinions are my own.
What is Snapology?
Snapology is new place to play with LEGOs and learn some mad STEM skills. Unlike other companies that run LEGO workshops, Snapology has an actual storefront, located in West County in Glendale. This is super awesome because you don’t have to wait for Snapology to book a camp with your local school–just check out their calendar for open play times, camps and workshops hosted right in their facility.
During the school year the Discovery Center play area is open from 10am to 3pm week days and from noon to 5pm on Saturdays. Kids over 5 can be checked into the center for 3 hours, allowing parents to run errands or take a little break of their own. We’re looking forward to expanded hours this summer! Open play is just $8 an hour ($2 discount for siblings).
Camps and Workshops
LEGO camps for spring and summer break are great ways for kids to spend their time off school having fun that still educational. Just don’t tell your kid that they’re learning! Right now there is still space available at Snapology one day workshops hosted at the Discovery Center! And now is the perfect time to reserve a spot for a weeklong summer camp! Your kid could spend a week learning robotics, making movies, creating video games and more!
Snapology for All
Snapology was created by two moms with backgrounds in math and science. Their programs covers kids from 2 to 14 and introduces concepts in engineering, physics, computers and even literacy–all through play. Kids might think they’re just playing superhero with LEGOs, but they’re really learning!
- Got a toddler? Check out a TotTime Toddler workshop to learn colors and letters with Duplo bricks!
- Got a 5 year old Jedi wanna be? Then build ships and lightsabers at a Adventures with Star Wars camp!
- Got a 9 year old Minecraft Fan? Check out the Minecraft Movie Making camp and learn how to make stop motion videos with LEGO Minecraft bricks!
- Got a 12 year old robotics nut? Then Real World Robotics is for you!
You’ll be happy to know that Snapology’s Discover Center is handicap-accessible and will host “Adaptive Play-Time” where children with special needs can play in an encouraging environment just for them. During these times, Snapology will typically be closed to the general public allowing children and their family members to have the facility all to themselves.
Snapology is also thinking about the parents! You’re always welcome to play with your child, or you can hang back in the parent’s lounge. If your kid is over 5, you’re free to use their drop off your kid and run a few errands.
We’re looking to do something special for Mitch’s 10th b-day and Snapology has all kinds of LEGO themes! You can choose from LEGO Friends, Super heroes, Ninjago and a lot more. There’s 12 different themes to choose from! Mitch will probably go for the Minecraft theme, but maybe he’d want the Mosaic art theme…..hmmm, so much to choose from!
Birthday packages start at $295 and include a Snapology facilitator who will handle the play time AND the cleanup. You can upgrade your party to include motorized builds, robotics or choose a party to go hosted at your location of choice! The Super Party package adds pizza & cupcakes to the party for a little extra, or make it a Premium Party and Snapology will handle the goodies bags, pizza & cupcakes. All you have to do is take pictures!
(Please note, the offer for a free pass to Snapology Expired in April 2017.)
