16 Places to Take Dad out for Fun In St. Louis

June 16, 2018 by Denise

Father’s Day is a time to celebrate the dads in our life–but let’s skip the cheesy ties, m’kay?  Here’s a whole bunch of ways you can have tons of fun with Dad around St. Louis!

Dine with Dad

Our friends at the the Anheuser-Busch Biergarten are kicking off a summer of weekend BBQs on Father’s Day! From 11 am to 5 pm you can order BBQ from brats to ribs from the Biergarten chefs, then kick back and listen to live music on the Pestalozzi Street Patio (bring your own lawn chair). There’s no cover charge, no RSVPs are required, and regular menu prices apply.

Need more ideas for treating Dad to dinner? Here’s a list of local hot spots for Father’s Day over at St. Louis Magazine!

How about dinner and a movie? Dad can get a free sandwich, Smash Burger or junior popcorn (with equal value purchase) at Marcus Theaters on Father’s Day! I recommend the Smash Burgers–those are freakin’ awesome.

Winery, Brewery & Distillery Tours

Did you know that we have tiny chunk of Germany in St. Charles County? And a bit of France out by Ste Genevieve? My personal favorite for wineries is the Yellow Farmhouse in Defiance, off the Katy trail. If you’re the athletic type, you can park your car at the Augusta trail head and peddle to Defiance. Or visa versa. The Augusta trail head is by Augusta Brewing, with a very nice patio/lawn dining set up.

For even more ideas on wine tours, check out the Wine Country site by the department of tourism.

Of course you know about Anheuser-Busch’s assortment of tours! There’s the free 45 min General Tour, a longer Bud Light Tour for $10, a Beer Museum Tour for $15, and a $35 Beermaster tour. (Kids are discounted and children under 2 are free.) Here’s more details at the Anheuser-Busch website.

Award winning Still 630 offers tours of their distillery for $5. They’re located “under the Arch” at 1000 S. 4th Street, just three blocks south of the stadium.

Stumpy’s Spirits out in Columbia, IL offers tours Thursday — Sunday. Tours are free, but you’ll need to RSVP at least 24 hours in advance. Stumpy’s is known as a #WhiskeyFarm, so your tour will go from grain to glass!

Visit the Art Museum–the outside one!

As the mother of boys, I can attest that trying to get them to absorb a little culture is tough. That’s why I love love love Laumeier Sculpture Park! It’s the perfect park for picnics with their big open grassy spaces, as well as touring all the pieces of sculpture tucked away along the wooded trails. Bring a kite, bring your dog, and bring a picnic to this awesome space on Father’s Day–or any day you want to have some outside family fun.

Visit the Zoo

The Father’s Day brunch is probably sold out by the time you read this, but the zoo is still great family fun no matter when you go. Pack a picnic lunch and make sure you swing by Grizzly Ridge, one of the newest habitats at the zoo!dad and baby at zoo

Beer, Goats and Ice Cream at Grant’s Farm

Grant’s Farm is one of my favorite things to do with the kids. There’s a good chance it will be busy! Did you know you can park your bike at Grant’s Farm for free? You’ll save a lot of time trying to park your car on a busy day, and you’ll get some exercise too! Check out Grant’s Trail if you’re interested. You might want to know that they added slushy machines to the deli (next to the hospitality bar) so if snow cones make you cringe, you have options!

Go for the Action

Take Dad out for laser tag, trampolines or go carts at one of our many excellent indoor action parks! Here’s our favs:

Pole Position: Dad will feel like a kid again when he zooms around in these full size go carts!

Epic 6 in Fenton: Laser tag, dodge ball and mazes! Epic 6 has plenty of specials and a great parents lounge away from the noise.

Sky Zone: What’s better than a room full of trampolines to wear the kids out? Plan to come early—they only allow a certain number of kids in the arenas at one time. If you come late, you’ll need to wait your turn. Even smarter: go online, pay in advance and they let you RSVP your time slot. (Psst. Sky Zone has two locations, Chesterfield AND Fenton.)

Sports Fusion in Chesterfield: An indoor amusement park with laser tag, dodge ball, rock climbing, mini golf and arcade games.

Amp Up Action Park in Manchester: Dad’s race free with the purchase of a regular race!

Flying Spider in Ballwin: Jump on trampolines, try out a trapeze or practice your ninja skills!
